Meet Our Pierre Rural Track Residents

Get to know the resident doctors preparing for careers in rural family medicine, with their first year in Sioux Falls and their next two years in Pierre.

Our four Pierre Rural Track residents train as part of the Sioux Falls program and care for patients at the hospital in Pierre. They don’t see patients at our Sioux Falls clinic.

  • Drew Vechell, MD

    Drew Vechell, MD is a first year resident at the Center for Family Medicine in Sioux Falls, SD. Dr. Vechell completed undergraduate school at the University of Notre Dame and medical school at the University of Minnesota. He is planning to practice rural family medicine after graduation.

  • Johanne Freeman, MD

    Johanne Freeman, MD is a first year resident at the Center for Family Medicine in Sioux Falls, SD. Dr. Freeman completed undergraduate and medical school at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. She is planning to practice in a rural setting, either at a clinic or small hospital after graduation.

  • Ian Jensen, MD

    Dr. Ian Jensen is a graduate of Augustana College, and completed medical school at Saba University School of Medicine. His ideal future practice is in the state of South Dakota. In his free time, Dr. Jensen spends his free time being with family and friends, golfing, and being on the lake.

  • Samuel Lowes, DO

    Dr. Samuel Lowes is a graduate of Truman State University, and completed medical school at A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Lowes ideal future practice includes having the opportunity to work with patients and families that I have cared for over the courses of their lives.
